Imagine an oasis next to the desert, a city with green gardens and dry hills, where people do smile, where women wash their clothes in the river along the pavement.

Imagine a place surrounded by vineyards, houses with small shaded courtyards, welcoming patios with carpets and cushions, hidden behind large coloured gates.

You are in Turpan, a small city where people cultivate grapes to make dryed fruits before producing wine, with a curious landscape of squared houses on the hills, used to keep and dry the grapes.

Imagine a multi-coloured lake, almost hidden under the clouds, hills with yurts belonging to the nomads, wild horses escaping in the mountain.

Imagine Kazakh riders and nomad shepherds gathering their herds.

You are in Tian-Chi, next to Urumqi, not far from Kazakhstan and Mongolia.

On our way to these wet mountains, we cross a desert with camels, a charming contrast between two opposite landscapes.

We didn't go to Kashgar, Turpan and Urumqi for the touristy sites but in order to feel a specific atmosphere, to live in another time and in another world.

We followed the Silk Road and thought to history, imagining caravans, camels, nomads and brigands of the desert.

We walked through ancient cities carved in the rocks, surrounded by greenery, oasis giving a feeling of freshness, in the middle of the desert.

We discovered the vestiges of a civilisation counted by Marco Polo… a first impression about Central Asia that we would love to develop during one of our next trips…
