Chinese becoming tourists ! Living with Chinese people can sometimes be difficult. But travelling with Chinese tourists can be... a real mass-tourism experience, as soon as you choose to visit historical sites. We very often have to share the sites we visit with groups of tourists which are like many army corps, well organised, getting out of the air-con buses and invading the place like a typhoon. They form an army which would not walk but rush into the place, going from one place of interest to another very quickly, following a very efficient guide with a colored flag, who uses his or her speaker even with only five persons in the group.

This warrior atmosphere doen't seem to disturb most of the participants, since they look very busy with what they do which is mostly very different from discovering a historical place. most of them eat while walking, leaving their waste everywhere but in the dustbins. Peelings, plastics, papers, handkerchiefs, spittle, cigarette ends... everything can help dirtying the place, and it doesn't matter if it is a mountain, a river or a temple. |

One of our most difficult times was our visit to the Shaolin Temple. A visit which was supposed to be peaceful, but which was transformed into a battle with the herds of tourists who decided to visit the place on the same day, spitting and screaming and pissing everywhere...
