Every single day, we could share with locals this favourite hobby. Not a silent and discrete hobby: spitting in China means scrapping the throat with as much noise as possible, gathering the more saliva you can in your throat, in a long jerked scraping, and suddenly spitting the gathered content, as far as possible, and preferably not in a dustbin, but on the ground. "Ground" means street and pavement of course, but cafés, restaurants, hotels lobbies, temples, buses and train coaches also have "grounds" where spitting is possible… No dustbin but very often, a delicate attention: once the spittle is on the ground, some people crush it with their foot like a cigarette end… |

Like all these Chinese people who smoke, even in crowded buses, but anyway, even the drivers smoke, right under the "no smoking" shield. Or like this kind mother who carried her child while he was making what he needed to, right in the middle of a temple (kids don't carry diapers, as their trousers are split, it is easier like that…). Or like this delicate young boy who was sitting next to us in a train (for 24 hours), which auricular's nail, about 2 cm long, was the perfect tool for many tasks, especially take all material out of his nostrils.
