The Ocean

Ocean is never far away from Cape Town and its region. After the penguin colony on a beach, the seals resting on their island, and the two ocean's meeting point, it is time for us to spend time in an active and lively town on the coast. We discover the "sea, surf and sun" atmosphere of this smallish village on a beautiful bay, and decide to stay here. We are probably the only backpackers not to be surf addict… at least, we are the only ones not to wear hawaian T-shirts!

We spend some time on the beach, watching (and admiring) the surfers on the waves.

On the same beach but a few steps further, the ground becomes rocky and the atmosphere changes : waves are crushing violently against the rocks. With the lighthouse surrounded by fog, we have the impression to be in the middle of a storm…

South Africa b(l)ack side : the townships

We could not leave South Africa without having touched a little bit of one of the other sides of the country : its history linked to Apartheid and segregation between "white" and "black" people.

You can't miss the Cap Flat townships from the highway going into town : a crowded area full of tiny houses giving the impression to be just waiting for the next storm to disappear… We cross one of this huge townships, with its inhabitants on the road, all their belongings around them : they just escaped a fire... a sad piece of life, maybe just a day like another in the township.
