After three kilometers walking, in a moist and humid atmosphere, and once we have crossed the lanslide that took away part of the road, we find a motorized way to reach Kathmandu.

Northern Nepal, from the border to the capital, is totally different to what we saw in Tibet : a luxuriant vegetation, humid landscapes, a moist warmth, colorfull villages, women with saris, the scent of incense and spices...a pre-taste of India which we like very much !

Kathmandu

Kathmandu is a city which offers all the elements part of the charm of asian cities : noises, horns, traffic-jams with taxis, bicycles and rickshaws, dust and pollution, stalls and vendors everywhere !

We like this bustling and living atmosphere and are comfortable with it, even after two weeks spent far away from civilization.

We see lots of bearded tourists, but no backpackers lost in the dazing emanations of the Kathmandu of the 1970's.

We still feel a backpacker's atmosphere in town, but it is easy to go out of the center to escape the souvenirs stalls and discover a charming city, surrounded by greenery, red brick houses, some temples, a welcoming population.

A mythical and nice step in our journey, a happy conclusion to our tibetan-nepalese odyssey.
