From Lhasa to Kathmandu, the road leads to places almost cut off the world, high plateau with herbs, rocks and rubbles, where rivers run everywhere but in a bed.

Huge spaces of rocky grounds, sometimes a hamlet and coming from nowhere, a farmer walking, an isolated herd, and far away, snow-covered mountains.

A ten days journey bringing us to marvellous landscapes, dusty villages, we sleep into old monasteries, eat fried noodles and rice and drink sweet milk tea.

Emotion can be felt everywhere around us, and we appreciate it, even on a bumping chaotic road.

Thanks also to Martin and Usa, a scottish-thai couple we met in Lhasa, and to Nema, our Tibetan driver, our journey is a real success.

O Everest

If we had to choose only one moment, one unique and magical and memorable moment, then it would be the first occasion we had to watch and admire the Everest and the mountain range around.

A climbing and curving road, and suddenly, after a pass, like a miracle : a range of high mountains that seem to be floating on top of white clouds ; behind, a clear blue sky, and the sun reflecting on the snow on the tops.

All these mountains look huge even if the Everest is easily recognizable. This view is amazing, and we don't want to leave, as we do feel this panorama is unique. A magical first occasion to admire the roof of the world before reaching its base camp, 5200 meters above sea level, where we spend the night.

Nepalese transhumance

We leave the snowy landscapes of the Himalaya range and reach the road to the Chinese-Nepalese border. Dry mountainous landscapes disappear and we discover wooded hills, a canyon, a wild river, and water running from the top of the mounts.

We have to say goodbye to our great team, and walk to the various check-points. Between China and Nepal, the border looks like a spy movie : a humid and choking atmosphere, armed men with uniforms, semi-official money changers, a dusty customs house, and hundreds of coloured trucks parked along kilometers of road, on the no man's land between the two borders.
