Luxury vs mangas Otakus Harajuku and Aoyama, two districts close to each other, encapsulates the Japanese contrasts between tradition and modernity. Aoyama with the most famous Omotesando avenue, Tokyo's Champs Elysees, is still the closest Tokyo gets to Paris, welcoming all luxury brands boutiques with more and more experimental architecture buildings. |

Omotesando is a pleasant area to wander, watching locals spending money, in a nice but calm atmosphere. Just a few steps and you find yourself suddenly into Harajuku's herds of bubblegum teenagers shopping for illiterate T-shirts and fishnet stockings. Harajuku is also THE place where dozens of teenage girls meet on Sundays, dressed like their mangas heroes. A fantastic circus with excited photographers and bewildered tourists gathered to catch the show. |

Leave this fun mess and you find yourself wandering in a splendid and silent park, admiring one of Tokyo's most beautiful Temples, observing a traditional wedding with costumes and traditions you don't know. Then you realize how much only Tokyo can offer such extremes, from one tradition to another. |
