Contrary to Penang, the Perhentian Islands are a totally vacation-style and dreamful place. No tourist herds nor luxury resorts here : just two islands with almost undiscovered jungle, white sand beaches and a clear blue water. After traveling through the jungle by train and taxi, after a two hours boat trip, we are totally smiling when we discover the islands. Happy to be back to diving, snorkeling and just doing nothing, "waiting for the coconut to drop", swimming in the deliciously warm water, and having wonderful fish barbeques at night, in a nice romantic atmosphere.

From tea plantations to the jungle

Our very first contact to preserved nature in Malaysia : three days spent in the Cameron Highlands, a mountainous region with large fruit-, flowers- and tea plantations, and the jungle on top of that. The landscape is just beautiful, especially the human-made labyrinth of tea bushes. Tea leaves are picked-up every day by hand...

Thanks to a seven-hour trek we discover how mountainous the region is. This is another occasion to discover a beautiful nature, great old trees and jungle, ice-cold waterfalls, and to meet local people.

We get to the Malaysia's historical jungle during a three hours boat trip on our way to the Taman Negara region. A night walk, looking for animal, surrounded by shades, smells and noises we do not recognize. A shiny sky full of stars, and the huge impressive forest around us. We have the feeling to be very far away from everything.

The jungle is worth discovering during the day also, while walking on the canopy tracks between the trees, 40 meters high. We see some wild animals too. Our main greeting is to have the permanent impression to be far away from our usual world.
